"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is set entirely in the ward of a state mental hospital in the Pacific Northwest in the 1970s. When a charming rogue contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison, he clashes with the head nurse. He quickly takes over the yard, leading others out of introversion, and stages a revolt so they can see the World Series on television and take part in a midnight party. The fun turns serious when the nurse has him submit to shock treatment and he eventually faces a permanent final correction. Director Gil Guptill says the play is not a carbon copy of the movie that won an Academy Award.

Shawnee Little Theatre presents this comedy-drama as the first show of its 36th season.
"Cuckoo's Nest" marks the SLT stage debut for seven of the actors.
